Where do you buy your yarn?
In conjunction with Yael’s request, I’m putting up a request for specific information about yarn/knitting supply shops. There are some places in town which are “full service”, and others where you can get a few balls of acrylic and a couple of crochet hooks.
Where do you do your shopping? Please include as much information as possible, and we will compile it into a web page, or list. Also, this includes mail order and internet sites. We can split it up by Israeli based and internationally based.
One website in Hebrew that I know of is: SanRafa I don’t know if they have a store, but I saw an ad in the paper. If anyone has had any dealings with them, let me know.
Another store note…did anyone notice that the yarn shop that used to be below Zol Mehadrin (next to the Central Bus Station) has moved upstairs? (Where the post office used to be.) Has anyone checked that place out yet?

Update: the woman in charge called me…she has a warehouse in Pisgat Zeev and we are welcome to come and see it as a group.

I buy my yarn from Yochanan who has a stall in the shuk. The official name of the street is “rehov Afarsek”, but there’s no sign. It’s the third or fourth little connecting street between the covered “main drag” and the wider street that runs parallel to it, from Yafo Rd to Rehov Agrippas. The entire street seems to consist of stalls that sell dry goods and sewing notions.
He has a very wide selection of all kinds of yarn, and carries a basic supply of knitting needles and crochet hooks.

We’ve got a yarn shop page up on the Oasis site (you’ve got a link to the site listed in the sidebar), but I can’t vouch for accuracy at this point since it’s not been updated in a while.
Here in Herzlia, there’s Tzemer Rachel on Sokolov Street. Her cotton selection is pretty good, but a lot of the winter yarns are synthetic or synthetic wool blends.
Internet site? Elann.com hands down. Wonderful selection, great prices and service.
But of course, I’m still working on getting my yarn stash down to a managable size.
(And thanks for the link to my blog.
