Unravelling/ Recycling Yarn

I’ve been reading some fun articles on the web about recycling yarn. The basic concept is that you go to a thrift shop, buy an old but good condition sweater at a low price, and unravel it to re-use the yarn.

There is even a Knit-Along for Recycled Yarn.

Does anyone know of good thrift shops in Israel which might be able to provide these sweaters?

Shipping Yarn to Israel

Jennifer mentioned Elann.com as a good site for buying yarn online. I’ve never purchased anything other than books from abroad, and I’m afraid of the customs issues.

Does anyone know what the actual rules are regarding “importing” of yarn and knitting accessories? What is the maximum amount allowed? Do the postal employees have any sense of cost, or do they just let it through?

Although I’m not in a financial situation to buy much yarn, I’d like to buy from E-Bay so I’d like to know the rules.
